Pramac Ducati’s Johann Zarco has finally gained his first MotoGP pole position for the 2022 season at the Grande Prémio Tissot De Portugal earlier today. It was truly a couple of exciting yet challenging qualification sessions for all riders, but the experienced 31-year-old Frenchman showed true potential on his Ducati Desmosedici GP22.
The final minutes of Q2 were thought to have concluded with Repsol Honda’s Marc Marquez taking the pole position, but his best lap time was cancelled due to the yellow flags being waved in the final sector thanks to his fellow teammate, Pol Espargaro, who unfortunately lost control of his factory Honda RC213V.
With that being said, it didn’t stop some of the 2022 favourites to blow through the last minute of Q2 with some blistering times, which concluded with Zarco at the front row, followed by Suzuki Ecstar’s Joan Mir in P2, and Aprilia Racing’s Aleix Espargaro in P3.
The second row is filled by Ducati’s Jack Miller, Yamaha’s Fabior Quartararo, and Mooney VR46’s Marco Bezzecchi. Finishing in the top 10 for tomorrow’s race is LCR Honda’s Alex Marquez in P7, Mooney VR46’s Luca Marini in P8, and Pol Espargaro in P10, just behind Marc Marquez who will be starting the Portuguese GP in P9. It’s going to be one hell of a MotoGP race tomorrow.
